Do you get that moment when you enter a hotel room and suddenly it seems that all your stress flies out of the window? Hospitality-industry insiders call it the “exhale” moment. I believe you would also want to have that kind of moment every time you enter your own bedroom at home. The good news is that achieving this on-retreat effect isn’t as challenging or as costly as it may seem. With the help of a few tricks, you can make your boudoir as sleek and soothing as you desire.
Here’s what you can do in creating a bedroom that looks like as if house-keeping just left:
1. Install Sconces
To save surface area, use sconces. You can install them near your bed or right above a side table. Just make sure that you mount them within easy reach.
2. Pad Your Headboard Out
A headboard that has been upholstered beautifully can add plushness. It can also serve as your bedroom’s focal point and can make a small- or medium-sized room look larger. See to it that you opt for a dark hue when selecting the color for the upholstery as it can help hide the linens pop and wear.
3. Keep A Night Table Close
For your by-the-bed essentials, provide space with the addition of an adequate-size night table at your bedside. A 24-inch wide stand would do, but make sure the color matches that of your bed for effect. You can add one on each side of your bed. On one table, you can place a swing-arm lamp that lets you direct light as needed.
4. Provide Space Around The Bed
This is not easy to achieve, especially if your room has limited space, but ideally, there should be ample room for moving safely in the dark. A distance of at least 18 inches from the bed to the wall or any nearby fixture should suffice.
5. Add An Area Rug
Adding an area rug can create layers and boundaries that can provide an underfoot “ahh” factor. It also provides extra pattern that makes sure your bedroom won’t look like it came out of a box – in short, boring.
6. Get Rid Of The Footboard
If your bed has one, it’s time to kick the habit. Getting rid of this unnecessary bed fixture will instantly make your room look and feel larger. Most importantly, it helps save you time in fixing the bed.
7. Utilize A Bedroom Perch
Adding an extra seat may eat space. Eventually, the fixture may also feel unnecessary. To solve this problem, utilize a storage with a flip-flop lid that can be used as a seat. With a little bit of creativity, you can have an additional fully-functional fixture inside your chamber. If space permits, adding a comfy chair in the corner of the room can also give you a place to kick your shoes off at the end of the day.
With these tips, you can come up with a well-arranged bedroom that’s restful and clutter-free, and you’ll have a bedroom you can check in and relax at every single night!
